LOS ANGELES — Nick Reiner, the son of director Rob Reiner, is facing serious charges after being accused of killing his parents in their Brentwood home. In his first appearance in a Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday, he appeared somber and was wearing a blue suicide prevention vest.

During this brief court session, which was conducted with him shackled behind glass, he did not enter a plea as the arraignment is set to continue until January 7.

On Tuesday, Reiner was officially charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, putting him at risk of facing the death penalty in this highly publicized case.

According to authorities, he allegedly stabbed both of his parents—Rob, 78, and Michele, 70—early Sunday morning. He was arrested a few hours later, approximately 25 miles away from the crime scene.

Footage from the incident shows Reiner, described as troubled, raising his arms in surrender as police approached him near the University of Southern California campus.

The arraignment was initially planned for Tuesday, but Nick’s attorney, Alan Jackson, mentioned that he was not medically cleared to attend.

Reports indicate that their daughter, Romy, stumbled upon the horrific crime scene when she went to check on her parents after a massage therapist found them unresponsive at the door.

Nick Reiner has faced significant struggles with drug addiction, reportedly entering rehab facilities at least 17 times. Additionally, he had a complicated relationship with his father, which included a disagreement during a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien.
