Nick Reiner Pleads Not Guilty to Parents’ Murders

Nick Reiner has entered a not guilty plea following an indictment for the murders of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michelle Reiner. The indictment was announced after a grand jury reviewed the evidence against him.

Reiner, 32, is accused of fatally stabbing his 78-year-old father and 70-year-old mother on December 14, 2025, at their Brentwood, California home. He was arrested later that evening at Exposition Park.

Initially facing direct charges from the District Attorney’s office, the case has been elevated to the trial stage with the grand jury’s involvement. This new indictment includes two counts of murder, allegations of using a deadly weapon, and a rather serious charge of ambushing his parents, which could result in life imprisonment without parole or even the death penalty.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman remarked, “This is a grave betrayal by a man who was loved and trusted by the people he is accused of killing. The special circumstances alleged in this indictment bring us closer to obtaining justice.”

Reports indicate that Reiner has struggled with schizophrenia and had a change in his medication shortly before the tragic incident. Additionally, he has faced challenges with substance abuse since his teenage years.

Meanwhile, his legal team is currently fighting for access to a trust fund meant to cover his legal defense against these serious charges.

Reiner, who remains in custody without bail, has had prior issues with jail staff during his detention. His next court date is set for September 15.
