Nick Reiner, the son of Rob Reiner, has been charged with the first-degree murder of his parents, Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner. Reports suggest that in the days leading up to the incident, Nick had been using meth, leading to sleepless nights and volatile outbursts, including punching walls.
The 32-year-old has a long history of drug issues and was described by sources as a “ticking time bomb.” Allegedly, his parents were at their wits’ end and wanted him to move out. Friends mentioned that he had been living in their Brentwood guest house for five years, even as his behavior became increasingly unpredictable.
“He was using meth and wouldn’t sleep for days,” a source stated. “Then he’d break things and punch walls during his outbursts.” It seems things were escalating, with his friends noting that his drug use was worsening.
Sources close to the family revealed that he had vandalized his living space several times, sometimes laughing off the damage afterward. Despite attending support meetings, he reportedly stopped because he found them “too cult-like.”
At one point, he allegedly threatened his sister during a confrontation about his issues, which escalated tensions significantly. Although his parents often considered going to the authorities, they never followed through, despite numerous confrontations between Nick and them over his drug use.
Nick’s history includes numerous stints in rehabilitation, and he once recounted how a meth binge left him “awake for days,” leading to destructive behavior in the guest house. The tragic discovery of Rob and Michelle’s bodies was made by their daughter, Romy, with reports indicating that they were already in a state of rigor mortis.
Interestingly, Nick’s behavior has drawn attention before. At a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien, his actions reportedly raised concerns among guests, resulting in a heated exchange with his parents.
