Nearly a month has passed since the tragic murder of his parents, and Nick Reiner has reportedly been taken off suicide watch.
The 32-year-old man no longer has to wear the suicide prevention smock he needed during his initial court appearance on December 17th, as stated by a recent report.
He’s still in solitary confinement at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, though. Ahead of his arraignment set for Wednesday, it’s been noted that Nick will remain in a High Observation Housing unit and will continue to be monitored until a judge makes a different decision.
Nick was arrested on December 15 for two counts of first-degree murder, but his attorney hasn’t provided any comment yet.
While he’s in jail, his siblings—older brother Jake, 34, and younger sister Romy, 28—are reportedly supporting each other at their family’s beach house in California. They were recently seen walking on the beach, collecting rocks.
Romy was apparently the one who discovered their parents, Rob and Michelle, dead at home, having been stabbed during a heated argument.
Prior to his arrest, Nick was seen wandering Los Angeles and was found in a hotel room covered in blood. Struggling with drug addiction for many years and having undergone a diagnosis of schizophrenia, his medication had been adjusted shortly before the horrific incident, which led to what some described as “alarming” behavior. Reports indicated that Nick expressed feelings of being “crazy.”
Interestingly, just the night before the incident, he made headlines at a Christmas party with Conan O’Brien’s family.
At the memorial service for Rob and Michelle from last month, a friend mentioned how Rob had voiced concerns about his son, expressing that he felt “scared” and thought Nick could potentially “hurt” him. Following their parents’ devastating deaths, Romy and Jake shared a poignant statement conveying their immense grief, stating, “Words cannot describe the unimaginable pain that we are experiencing every moment of every day. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
