A Sinkhole Threatens Nicolas Cage’s Malibu Mansion

A significant sinkhole, measuring 30 by 30 feet, is endangering Nicolas Cage’s $10.5 million mansion in Malibu. KTLA reported on Tuesday that the driveway of the upscale beachfront property located in the Lechuza Beach area has entirely collapsed into the hole, which is thought to be a result of coastal erosion. Remarkable photographs captured a deep cavity in front of the garage, and a Sky5 helicopter captured images of waves crashing beneath the house through the enormous opening.

According to Page Six, the property is indeed owned by Cage.

Los Angeles firefighters discovered the disturbing sight early Tuesday morning while responding to a call about a suspected gas main break on Sea Level Drive at around 5:45 a.m., as recounted by public information officer Torres.

The asphalt and concrete appeared to have separated, forming a large crater that consumed a portable construction toilet and pieces of a privacy fence.

In stark contrast, the back of the house boasts stunning views of the beach and ocean, which appeared to be unaffected when photographed.

KTLA noted that Cage acquired the mansion, complete with ocean views and a rooftop hot tub, in 2024 for $10.5 million.

“There’s been considerable damage to this home or, at least, to its driveway,” KTLA’s Rich Prickett commented. “It seems no one was present at the time; in fact, the house seems to be undergoing renovations.”

The area has experienced several days of high surf following the impact of former Hurricane Marie in the Pacific.

Moreover, KTLA reported that other homes nearby have also been affected, leading to restricted access to the gated community. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
