Nicolette Eggert Reflects on Her Baywatch Experience
Nicolette Eggert, known for her role as Roberta “Summer” Quinn on Baywatch, shared her experiences from the show during a recent episode of the “Never Here Hollywood” podcast. When Eggert joined the series in 1992, her life was far from perfect.
Initially, she was meant to star in a spin-off, but the overwhelming success of Baywatch led to a different path. Eggert joined in Season 3, explaining that the spin-off idea was scrapped. “They said, ‘No spinoffs. This is what’s working, and we want to keep it that way,'” she recalled.
Though she participated in the show for two seasons, Eggert felt it wasn’t the experience she had signed up for. “I had this idea that if I left the show, I could escape the stigma associated with it,” she admitted, highlighting the challenges actors faced due to their on-screen roles.
This stigma, unfortunately, spilled into her dating life as well. “It’s tough because people come with preconceived notions about you,” she noted, expressing the difficulty in being seen for who she truly is.
During the podcast, host Steve Kmetko asked Eggert what it was like to be part of such a massive hit. “Strange,” she responded, recalling how they were often ridiculed by the press, labeling them as “Baywatch Bimbos.” There was a sense of irony in being involved with a top-rated show while also being subjected to demeaning stereotypes.
After leaving Baywatch, Eggert made a brief return in 2003 for “Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding.” Reflecting on her early days, she admitted, “I had no idea what I was getting into. I remember thinking, ‘Are we really going to wear swimsuits every day?'” She faced body image issues during her time on the show, feeling out of place among the other fit actresses.
At just 18, Eggert decided to undergo breast augmentation, a choice she now regrets. “It was a foolish decision,” she stated, hoping young women would learn to embrace their natural bodies. After several procedures, including a reduction featured on the show “Botched,” she still grapples with the consequences of that initial choice.
In early 2024, Eggert shared a more serious update—her diagnosis of stage 2 breast cancer. What started with chest pain and unexpected weight gain turned into a life-altering discovery when she found a lump during a self-exam. “It was painful, and I knew I needed to see a doctor immediately,” she said, recounting the struggles she faced in getting timely care.
Ultimately, the diagnosis hits particularly close to home, as both her parents also battled cancer. Eggert’s journey, while tough, reflects a blend of resilience and reflection on the complexities of fame and personal health.
