Nicoled Kidman Reflects on Life Challenges After Divorce Filing

Less than two weeks after filing for divorce from Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman is opening up about her mental health struggles and how her experiences have provided her tools to navigate even the darkest times.

In a recent conversation with Harper’s Bazaar, published on October 9, Kidman, now 58, discussed her insights and how she manages to stay strong for her children while enduring tough moments. “The most amazing thing is the experience you’ve accumulated,” she shared. “I think, ‘Oh, I’ve been here before. Actually, now I know how to deal with this.’ Or, ‘I may not have faced this exact situation, but I’ve been through something similar, and I’ll find a way through it.'”

While Kidman didn’t specifically address her split from Urban, she reflected more generally on life’s difficulties. “There’s something about knowing that no matter how painful or difficult a situation might seem, you can get through it,” she emphasized. “You have to feel it. You can’t numb it. You have to experience it, and while it may seem impossible at times, if you proceed gently and slowly, it will eventually pass.”

Her remarks came shortly after Urban filed for divorce on September 30, marking the end of their 19-year marriage. They share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. Kidman also has two adult children, Bella, 32, and Connor, 30, from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.

Despite the personal rollercoaster, Kidman expressed that being a mother helps ground her. “My children definitely provide me with purpose,” she noted. “It’s about being their protector and guide, assuring them that I’m here for them, and that there will always be a safe space for them to grow.”

Before announcing her separation, Kidman had shared poignant reflections on life’s unpredictability. Weeks earlier, in an interview with Vogue, she hinted at her emotional state, which seemed to foreshadow the impending breakup. “How many times do you think you have a clear path for your life, only to find out it’s taking unexpected turns?” she pondered.

Although she did not comment publicly on the divorce at that time, by October 8, she had officially filed. Kidman and Urban met in 2005 and tied the knot the following year in June 2006. Their last public appearance together was in June 2025 at the FIFA Club World Cup in Nashville.

While many fans were taken aback by the news, sources close to the couple suggested that the split had been on the horizon for some time, with one noting it “wasn’t really a secret.”
