Nicole Kidman Embraces New Role as a Death Doula
Nicole Kidman recently announced that she is stepping into the role of a death doula, a surprising shift for the well-known actress.
During her appearance at the Silk Speaker Series at the University of San Francisco, she shared that the passing of her mother was a significant factor in this transition away from the spotlight. She admitted it might sound “a little weird.”
Kidman, 58, expressed to the audience, “My mother passed away, and I was feeling really lonely. There was only so much I could do as family.”
She added, “My sister and I have many kids, careers… I wanted to support my sister since my dad’s no longer around. I thought, ‘I wish there were people who would just be there to provide comfort and care.'”
She reflected on this journey, saying, “That’s part of my growth and what I’m going to learn.”
Death doulas are known for offering spiritual, emotional, and physical assistance to those who are dying and their families, as noted by various resources.
This announcement comes shortly after Kidman shared another intriguing confession. On “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” she talked about her skills in dissection, a topic that caught many off guard.
She revealed she had been preparing for a role as a forensic pathologist in “Scarpetta,” where she plays Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a medical examiner.
“I can dissect,” she told Fallon, adding confidently, “I can remove every organ. I can name every organ,” claiming she learned these skills from an “incredible medical examiner.”
