Nikki Garcia had hoped for “an opportunity to discuss” her marriage with Artyom Chigvintsev before he was arrested on domestic violence charges.
Professional wrestler She told listeners of “The Nikki & Bree Show” podcast She said last week that she was looking forward to some cell phone-free spa time with her husband to mark their second wedding anniversary.
“When we're together in the steam room, sauna, pool, or in the waiting room before or after a massage, we just sit and chat,” explained Garcia, 40. “Artem and I have talked about doing that.”
She called it a “great moment,” noting that she “did something similar last year.”
“It gave us an opportunity to discuss our marriage: where are we at, what do we love, what do we not love?” the athlete recalled.
“We had such a great conversation and we didn't just set goals for the next year of our marriage. [figuring out] “What can we add to our marriage or what are we looking forward to in our marriage?” she continued.
Garcia said she plans to divulge some of the details of the conversation depending on what Chigvintsev, 42, considers to be “TMI.”
She finds that her partners often ask her, “Did you really need to talk to me like that?”
The couple, who married in August 2022, initially had other plans for their anniversary, but “Artyom had to go for work on his special day.”
“We originally planned this amazing lunch,” Garcia said. “Artem and I [our son]Matteo was at school. … I think we’ll try something tonight.”
She explained, “The great thing about anniversaries and birthdays is that if something goes wrong, you don't necessarily have to celebrate the day if you've made plans.”
The pair made headlines three days later when Chigvintsev was arrested in Napa Valley, California, on suspicion of felony bodily injury to a spouse or cohabitant and released on $25,000 bail.
The “Dancing with the Stars” pro has yet to comment on the incident, but Garcia's publicist asked for “privacy.”
The former reality TV star was spotted without her wedding ring while boarding a private jet with her 4-year-old, Matteo, over the weekend, and while hosting Netflix's hot dog eating competition “Joey Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef” on Monday.
According to TMZ, she is currently seeking a divorce lawyer.
The pair met in 2017 when they were paired together on season 25 of “DWTS,” but didn't confirm their relationship until two years later.
Chigvintsev got down on one knee and got married in 2019, and a baby boy was born the following year before their wedding in Paris.
