Nikki Glaser Criticizes CBS News at Golden Globe Awards

During her monologue at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, comedian Nikki Glaser took aim at CBS News, labeling it a hub for what she referred to as “BS news.” Her comment, “And the award for ‘Most Editorial’ goes to CBS News,” suggested a shift in the network’s credibility, something critics have raised concerns about following recent controversies and management changes.

One notable incident involved Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who accused CBS of editing her interview on “Face the Nation” last September. In the wake of this, CBS News pledged that future interviews would be broadcast in real-time.

There’s certainly been a lot of chatter surrounding CBS lately. Critics argue its reputation has taken hits, especially after a $16 million settlement with former President Donald Trump related to accusations of altered interview footage aimed at portraying a more favorable image of then-Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump claimed this to be a form of “election interference,” hinting at the network’s bias ahead of the 2024 election.

Not to mention, CBS has faced scrutiny from various liberal commentators after its parent company, Paramount, reached a settlement with Trump. Many believe that the recent leadership changes, including the appointment of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief, may signal a new approach to news coverage. Weiss’s management decisions, however, have also attracted criticism, especially when a segment on “60 Minutes” was pulled just hours before airing.

Despite Glaser’s jesting, CBS and Paramount were behind the broadcast of the Golden Globes, which aired live and was also available on Paramount+.
