Nikki Glaser Skips Political Jokes at Golden Globe Awards
During the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, comedian Nikki Glaser opted against making political jokes, expressing that they just “aren’t funny” these days. On a recent episode of Howard Stern’s radio show, she revealed that while a joke related to Trump was penned, it was ultimately left out.
“It’s not funny,” Glaser reportedly mentioned. She shared a light-hearted quip she had considered, saying, “I hear the bars are out of ice. And, you know, we don’t actually need ice. And the fact is, I hate ice.” However, even that felt, to her, too trivial.
Moreover, Glaser noted that several jests directed at former President Trump did not make the cut, including one regarding his name being added to the Trump Kennedy Center. Written by comedian Steve Martin, that particular joke was nixed since it didn’t match the event’s tone. “I was like, don’t say the guy’s name right now,” she told Stern, adding she wanted to give it all “space.”
Despite Glaser’s attempt to steer clear of political issues, many attendees were quite vocal. The event occurred shortly after the tragic shooting of Renee Good, which has ignited widespread protests and national discussions. Celebrities like Jean Smart, Mark Ruffalo, and Wanda Sykes wore pins that expressed sentiments like “BE GOOD” and “ICE OUT.”
Glaser did, however, take a jab at CBS—the network airing the awards—calling it the home of “BS News.” She remarked, “Most editorial awards go to CBS News. That’s right. CBS News: The newest place to find ‘BS’ news in America.” This comment comes amidst ongoing controversies where CBS News has faced accusations of selectively editing interviews, as noted by Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
