Nikki Glaser Prepares for Golden Globes Hosting Duties
Nikki Glaser recently discussed her upcoming role as host for the Golden Globes, revealing one celebrity she’s hesitant to poke fun at. During her third turn at hosting on Sunday, Glaser, who made history last year as the first woman to do so solo, received favorable reviews for her initial performance.
In a segment on “CBS Mornings,” Glaser shared what attendees and viewers might anticipate from her this year. She mentioned that she’s been testing her material through various stand-up gigs. However, there’s one star—Julia Roberts—she has no intention of ridiculing.
“I’ve been working on my monologues all around L.A., but any jokes about Julia Roberts? Yeah, no,” she revealed. “You can’t make fun of America’s Sweetheart. Whatever I say about her will need to be the most sophisticated joke I can craft because it’s got to be subtle.” Glaser expressed surprise at the audience’s strong reaction during past performances, noting that “they were booing, and I wondered, ‘Is she here?'”
Glaser acknowledged the challenge of her hosting duties, viewing it as a “secret mission.” She aims to entertain the home audience while maintaining the enjoyment of the stars present. “You want to make fun of those who want it, but without ruining the atmosphere,” she explained. She finds the balance tricky, stating that selecting the right joke is one of the hardest parts of her job.
Reflecting on her past experiences in celebrity roasts, where she often delivers sharp jabs, Glaser indicated that her approach for the Golden Globes differs significantly. “I leave the harsh roasting for those events,” she noted, emphasizing the need for a gentler touch during the awards show. She admitted feeling a bit starstruck this year, as many of the big names she is supposed to roast are individuals she grew up admiring.
In summary, Glaser is gearing up for a dynamic Golden Globes, striving to balance humor while respecting the icons in attendance. She recognizes the nuances in her role and is ready to navigate the challenges ahead.
