Nikki Haley says ‘Let’s wait and see’ when asked about pardoning Hunter Biden

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley said Friday she would not rule out pardoning her eldest son Hunter Biden if he is convicted and Biden is elected to the White House.

Haley, 51, said it was not “a responsible decision to make yet when we don't know everything” about whether to grant President Biden's 53-year-old son a full legal pardon for his alleged crimes. . Details. ”

“I mean, I'm not even going to think about it,” the former South Carolina governor told NBC News when asked about a possible Hunter Biden pardon.

“We still don't know what they found him guilty of,” she added. “We know that what we've seen in the Justice Department system is that they don't treat everyone fairly.”

Haley argued that the way the Justice Department has handled cases involving the Biden family and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is “very different” than it handled former President Donald Trump.

Trump, 77, a front-runner for the White House, told Iowa voters at a town hall Thursday that it “is not in the best interest of the country and I don't think our country will move forward with amnesty.” Trump, 77, has vowed to pardon him if he is elected president. An 80-year-old president is sitting in prison. ”

Hunter Biden was indicted last month on nine charges, including three felonies, for allegedly evading more than $1 million in taxes while living a hard-partying, “luxury” lifestyle over four years.

If convicted on all charges, he could face up to 17 years in prison.

The scandal-scarred eldest son was separately indicted in September on three felonies related to making false statements when purchasing firearms.

He could face up to 25 years in prison in the firearms case.

Hunter Biden could also be charged with contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena by the House Oversight and Judiciary Committee to testify in the impeachment inquiry into corruption allegations against the Biden family.

“I'm not going to go into whether we pardoned Hunter Biden or not,” Haley continued during an interview with NBC News. “Let's see what the charges are. But at this point, we have to look at every case individually. And even though we don't know all the details of the matter, you I don’t think there’s any responsibility in just giving up on whether or not to do something like that to someone’s son.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis seemed surprised when asked the same question on NBC News.

“Why? “No! ” DeSantis exclaimed.

Florida's governor insisted the Justice Department's prosecution of Hunter Biden and Trump are “not the same thing.” DeSantis also suggested that he would consider a Trump pardon, saying it could help “move the country forward.”

“The current administration is prosecuting a former president. That's different from prosecuting Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden was not one of the opposition leaders. So it's not healthy for this country to do something like that.” That’s not the point.”

“if [Hunter Biden] If he didn't have ties to the DC establishment, he would have been indicted long ago. But they are not equivalent in some ways to what we see with Ford and Nixon and later Donald Trump,” he added.
