Nine people, including two children, were injured in a “horrific incident” in London on Wednesday night, with some of the injured rushing to the aid of the first victim, police said.
An investigation is underway after several people were injured after a “suspected corrosive substance” was thrown just meters from Clapham Common in London’s upmarket Lambeth. A woman and two children were taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
Three people who rushed to the rescue were also injured and hospitalized. Additionally, three police officers who responded to the scene were also injured by the “substance.”

Police said a man was seen “fleeing the scene” of the “horrific incident” and is being sought in connection with the attack. No arrests have been made yet, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
As reported by the BBC, Marina Ahmad, a member of the London Assembly, said: “There was a road accident in which a man assaulted the occupants of a car and threw acid. The victims included a child.”
The apparent acid attack is just the latest incident in London as the city endures a surge in violent crime. This week, police reportedly shot and killed a man who threatened residents with a crossbow.
The crossbow incident is one of many uses of the weapon in London’s ongoing crime crisis, and although British law prohibits the use of firearms in almost all situations, criminals still find ways to do so. As reported last month, knife crime will soar in 2023, with police recording more than 40 incidents per day. Gun crime also increased by 6% from the previous year.
around paper According to the Action Against Armed Violence campaign group, “Greater London marks a worrying trend in violent crime, with an estimated 103 murders in 2023”. According to the report, 67 people were stabbed to death and eight were shot to death.
This story is developing and has more to come.
