The NIT made it to the final eight and it’s been a great tournament so far. This is exactly what the secondary tournament was designed to do, allowing a despised mid-major to shine and proving to the world that great college basketball exists outside of the Big Dance.
There is no question that the creation of NIT was a disappointment for Indiana. The Sycamores didn’t qualify after losing in the Missouri Valley Championship, but they parlayed that disrespect into a great run on the back of bespectacled center Robby Avila. Indiana State University’s most attractive player since Larry Bird is doing his best for his team this year, and has achieved great results.
Meanwhile, which Power 5 schools received bids based on conference? Most were bounced back, ensuring the mid-majors reign at the top of the NIT.
