NJ ex-con allegedly stabbed fiancée to death a day after publicly proposing

A registered sex offender in New Jersey allegedly stabbed his fiancée to death, authorities said, just one day after she shared a video of him publicly proposing to her and professing his love.

According to the Union County Prosecutor's Office, Jose Melo, 52, was killed by his wife, Naquet Jadix Trinidad Maldonado, after he was found dead inside their Elizabeth home on Dec. 30. 31 years old) was arrested last week.

The horrifying discovery came about 24 hours after Melo, a local DJ and ex-convict, shared footage on Facebook of the moment he got down on one knee at the local Bamboleo nightclub.

“I love you, baby, fraca naky bella,” he captioned the post.

Mero pulled out the ring box and asked the question, and he heard cheers from the onlookers.

It wasn't immediately clear how long the couple had been together.

“Nakee was senselessly taken from us on December 30th in an act of evil,” her aunt wrote on the GoFundMe page.

“This horrific act by someone she trusted left her two children orphaned and with few options for their future.”

Mello was convicted in 2010 of aggravated sexual touching, threatening a woman with a box cutter and sexually assaulting her, according to state sex offender registry records.

Prosecutors said they were continuing to investigate the motive for the killing.

Mello was charged with numerous charges, including first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
