Firefighters in southern New Jersey rescued a dog stuck in a spare tire.
Members of the Franklinville Volunteer Fire Department discovered Daisy, an 11-month-old yellow Labrador, when they responded to a home in Franklin Township last Thursday.
Daisy’s neck was stuck deep in the middle of the tire rim, and firefighters quickly devised a rescue plan while trying to calm her down.

Lt. Brandon Volpe told the Philadelphia Inquirer that crews initially used dish soap and water but were unable to free the dog, which was “pretty immobile.” I then tried vegetable oil, and when that didn’t work, I wrapped a wrap around her neck, hoping that the oil and soap would make it slippery.

When that failed, Volpe remembered that he had a plasma cutter at home, which is used to cut steel and metal, and the crew loaded Daisy into a red wagon and headed to Volpe’s garage.
