A young New Jersey mother has been charged with murder in the drowning deaths of her infant daughters, authorities said.
Naomi Elkins, 27, was arrested Tuesday. This was announced by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to authorities, officers responded to the scene around 4:50pm on Tuesday after receiving a report of two children going into cardiac arrest at a home in Lakewood.
At the scene, police found Hatzolah Medical Services, a Jewish volunteer ambulance program common in religious communities, administering life-saving treatment to two girls, ages 1 and 3.
Both children were later pronounced dead at the scene, according to prosecutors.
An investigation revealed that the one-year-old had been stabbed and the two girls had drowned.
Authorities said Elkins was taken into custody at the scene “without incident.”

She was transported to the Ocean County Jail and is being held without bail on two counts of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Jail records show Elkins is married and has a master’s degree. It’s unclear when she will appear in court.
Crime scene tape was found around the home where the girls were found Tuesday night. The Asbury Park Press reported..
Investigators were seen entering and leaving the home after the murder.
