A New Jersey student has died in a horrific car accident on his way home from college graduation.
Lauren Huski, an 18-year-old from St. John Vianny High School in Holmdel, New Jersey, who also earned credits at nearby Brookdale Community College as part of her advanced program, was killed in a car accident Thursday in Coltsneck, New Jersey. died in . Husky was in a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 17-year-old boy who overturned after hitting a utility pole on Laird Road around 12:30 p.m., authorities said. she died at the scene.
The driver could not be identified because of his age. What caused the Jeep to veer off the road is part of an ongoing investigation.
Monmouth County Prosecutors said the driver was injured and taken to a local hospital.
Brookdale Chancellor David Stout said the university was “devastated” by the tragedy.
Husky is one of the youngest graduates of the program to earn an associate’s degree upon graduating from high school, Stout said.
She was scheduled to graduate from high school on June 3rd.
“We had just celebrated her success as one of the youngest college graduates at Brookdale’s morning graduation ceremony,” Stout said, according to the newspaper. Stout added that a campus-wide silence was held in honor of Husky on Friday morning.
Margaret Kane, principal of St. John Vianny, called Husky “a gifted student and athlete” and said the community “had suffered a great loss”.
Husky was co-captain of his college soccer team, a member of the National Honor Society, and former president of the school’s student council, according to his LinkedIn page.
