A new survey shows that fear is the top emotion among voters regarding the expected presidential rematch this fall between President Biden and former President Trump.
inside YouGov and Yahoo News In polls, most voters chose the most negative sentiment when asked how they felt about a rematch.
According to the survey, 40% of respondents checked “fear”, topping the list. Meanwhile, 29 percent of respondents chose extreme fatigue and 21 percent chose depression. Emotional pleasure was only 8%.
A majority of Americans, 53%, chose at least one of three negative emotions: fear, fatigue, and depression, but at least one of three positive emotions: optimism, excitement, and joy. Only 40% did.
It’s not too surprising that voters aren’t excited about the two presidential candidates, but Yahoo News noted that people are starting to be less negative about a rematch than they once were.
On Monday, Trump won the delegates needed to win the Republican presidential nomination, just hours after Biden also won enough delegates to win the Democratic presidential nomination. Both candidates have begun preparations for the general election, which is likely to be another close election.
According to the survey, fatigue levels have fallen by 5 points from 34% since September, when multiple candidates were challenging Trump and Biden for their respective nominations. Optimism rose 6 points from 25% to become the second most-chosen emotion in recent polls, behind fear.
The survey found that optimism was the highest sentiment among Republican respondents. The survey also found that a much higher percentage of Republican respondents thought Trump had the best chance of winning. Eighty-five percent of Republican respondents believe Trump is the favorite to win, while 65% of Democrats believe Biden will win a second time.
The survey was conducted between March 8th and 11th among 1,482 voters. The margin of error is 2.8 percentage points.
