‘No Comment’: Democratic Representative Avoids Talking About Her $8 Million Increase in Wealth Since Joining Congress

Pressley Addresses Wealth Increase Amid Questions

Democratic Representative Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts faced questions Wednesday regarding her significant wealth increase, reportedly reaching up to $8 million, despite entering Congress with a negative net worth.

Pressley initially came to Congress after defeating incumbent Democrat Michael Capuano in a 2018 primary. Her first financial disclosure suggested she was in the negatives, but a recent report indicated that her net worth skyrocketed due to various rental properties in Massachusetts and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This was discussed in a segment on “The Bottom Line” aired on Thursday evening, where Fox Business reporter Chad Pergram posed questions about her financial situation.

When Pergram asked how she had gained such income from her rental properties, Pressley replied, “Sir, I submit my financial disclosure, just like everybody else. There’s nothing to see here. Thank you.”

Pergram then inquired if it was appropriate for members of Congress to amass such wealth while in office and whether rules should exist regarding this. Pressley did not comment further when approached for clarification.

Pressley is part of the House group known as “the Squad,” which advocates for abolishing police funding and relieving student debt. Other notable members include Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib.

During the Biden administration, investigations looked into how Omar’s wealth increased since her entry into Congress, especially relating to income from her spouse. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Pressley’s husband, who has served time for drug trafficking, may have earned up to $1 million in 2024, as revealed in her latest financial disclosures.

Additionally, Pressley made between $250,000 and $500,000 from selling a rental property in Fort Lauderdale in 2024. Interestingly, this property was not mentioned in her financial disclosures from the previous five years, raising questions about its purchase as well.
