No harmful intention behind Angel Reese’s foul

There’s no doubt that Caitlyn Clark isn’t a fan of the ongoing drama involving her and fellow WNBA player Angel Reese.

After a questionable foul against Reese during the season opener on Saturday, the 23-year-old defended her actions, calling it a “smart play.” She remarked, “Don’t make it into something it isn’t. It was a good basketball play. I’m unsure what the Reference saw to change it. Sometimes, it’s their discretion. It’s a foul that puts them on the free throw line. I’ve seen a lot of basketball.”

Reese, addressing the incident afterward, described it as simply “basketball play.”

During the third quarter, Clark fouled Reese, causing her to fall under the basket to prevent a shot attempt. After a review, Clark received a Flagrant 1 foul, leading to some tension that required players from both teams to separate the two.

Clark ended the game with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Reese also performed well with 12 points and 17 rebounds.

Her standout performance even caught the eye of LeBron James. He posted, “Triple Dub CC!! A great way to kick off the season!” on X.

Earlier this week, Clark spoke with ESPN about feeling more adjusted to the WNBA in her second season, reflecting on her experience last year as a rookie. “Honestly, I don’t even remember last year’s opener. Maybe that’s a good thing,” she said. “This year, I just want to have fun and be confident. I’ve been in this league for another year now. I know I belong, and I can help my teammates every game. That’s my role.”

She added, “Not everything is perfect. You have to give yourself grace. There are good moments and tough times. It’s important to stay neutral and keep a positive mindset.”

The Fever will be facing the Dreams on Tuesday night.
