It really takes guts to stand up for what you believe in. This is especially true when you’re going against individuals and institutions that hold significant power and aren’t shy about misusing it.
That’s why I find the courage shown by Americans who are expressing their beliefs about President Trump so inspiring. They are clearly stating that he’s not our king.
Interestingly, the organizers claim that at least 5 million people participated in protests across all 50 states on June 14th and 15th. Yes, that’s right, 5 million—not just 2,100! They gathered in communities across the political spectrum, from blue to red states, in cities and small towns alike. Some protests were small, with just a few attendees, but the overall turnout was significant.
People are rallying together despite the fact that Trump has sent U.S. troops to confront protesters. It’s worth noting that states like Virginia and Texas had the National Guard deployed ahead of these gatherings.
In Minnesota, thousands showed up even amid the grim news of an assassination targeting Democratic leaders. The alarming circumstances didn’t deter their resolve, demonstrating a strong sense of community and purpose.
As the situation escalated, the perpetrator of the shooting was apprehended, and it later came to light he had been targeting Democratic officials. Disturbingly, flyers promoting the “No Kings” event were found in his car.
Meanwhile, President Trump’s long-desired military parade—a sort of lavish birthday present—didn’t go as planned. Reports suggest attendance was less than anticipated, and his administration has faced scrutiny regarding the accuracy of crowd sizes shared by White House representatives.
Trump’s comments, delivered to a noticeably small audience, were also unusual. Perhaps it’s reflective of his usual bravado, but maybe he’s beginning to feel some pushback. His popularity has taken a hit due to recent military actions against Americans, which could be affecting his public appearances.
Resistance has clearly emerged. Legal challenges have halted many of Trump’s controversial executive orders, showing that there are those willing to stand up to his administration.
It seems like Trump has had to adapt his approach as the consequences of his policies have become clearer, especially as his base voices concerns about how these issues impact them.
For instance, after increasing the detention of peaceful immigrants, widespread protests erupted, leading Trump to call for military action and further escalate tensions.
Local business owners, including farmers and restaurant operators, expressed their opposition to such actions, voicing fears about how these crackdowns might interfere with their operations. This led Trump to suggest pausing immigration enforcement in these sectors.
However, this decision angered his more radical anti-immigrant supporters, prompting him to backtrack and announce even more aggressive measures against undocumented immigrants in major cities.
His rhetoric continues to dehumanize and polarize, with Trump asserting that Democrats are actively undermining the country. Such inflammatory language can easily foster division and even violence among his supporters.
We must remain vigilant, as the risks posed by an authoritarian regime are tangible. Trump wields power recklessly, and individuals opposing him must navigate a precarious landscape.
Indeed, even small victories require caution, as a leader like Trump may retaliate against dissent.
Nevertheless, it’s crucial to resist the urge to be intimidated. There’s power in unity, and being unyielding could ultimately lead to overcoming him.
Legal firms that have stood up to Trump’s intimidation tactics are learning that compliance with such tyranny can often lead to sacrifices. Those who resist his demands discover that solidarity is their best ally.
With more than three years remaining in Trump’s term, the choices we face regarding when and how to act will significantly impact our future—freedom or tyranny.
The participants of the “No Kings” movement, which showcased a diverse coalition, remind us that we are more likely to achieve collective freedom when we hold fast to our core principles: preparation, discipline, a clear vision for the future we wish to create, and the courage to stand united for our nation.
Let’s keep pushing forward.
