Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) said Thursday on MSNBC's “All In” that there is “no question” that former President Donald Trump violated the Foreign Emoluments Clause of the Constitution. The provision prohibits the president from accepting payments or gifts from foreign governments or monarchs unless approved by Congress. Agree.
“We now have concrete evidence that Donald Trump received millions of dollars from foreign governments while he was president of the United States,” host Chris Hayes said. This comes from a new 156-page report by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee entitled “The White House for Sale, How the Prince, Prime Minister and Prime Minister Rewarded President Trump” is. ”
He asked, “Do you think what we found here is millions of dollars that are flowing openly from the government into the president's pockets by his corporations? Do you think that violates the emoluments clause?” Ta.
Raskin said, “There is no question: The Emoluments Clause prohibits the president and any federal employee from receiving money of any kind, including emoluments, offices, gifts, or titles, from a prince, king, or foreign government without their express consent.'' It is stated in absolute, categorical terms that Congress cannot. Every other president in our history has faithfully followed that order.”
