No taxpayer dollars for illegal immigrant gender surgeries under new House GOP bill

First appeared on FOX: A new House Republican-led bill has been introduced to block federal funds from being used to pay for gender reassignment surgery for illegal immigrants.

Rep. Greg Stube (R-Fla.) introduced the “Stop Paying for Transgender Surgery and Extraordinary Expenses to Illegal Aliens and Detainees (STOP WEIRD) Act” on Thursday, which has the support of at least five other Republican House members.

“Kamala may enact some bizarre and disturbing plan today, or in the highly unlikely case of a Harris-Waltz administration,” Stubbs told Fox News Digital.

“Congress has a responsibility to prevent taxpayer dollars from being used to pay for transitional surgery for illegal immigrants. I can think of countless better ways to spend taxpayer money, one of which is on veterans who have been fighting for months, sometimes years, to get the health care they earned in service to our country.”

Harris finally adds policy pages to her campaign website, devoting several sections to Trump

This is part of increased scrutiny by the House Republican majority of Vice President Kamala Harris and her policy platform since she became the Democratic nominee for 2024 president in late July.

In a recently resurfaced 2019 poll for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Harris suggested she would support federal funds being used to pay for sex-reassignment surgeries for illegal immigrants in custody and U.S. prisoners.

The then-California congressman filled out the form along with other candidates in the 2020 presidential primary.

The move has sparked a backlash from Republican critics, who see it as evidence that Harris is not the centrist she portrayed during the campaign.

Former President Donald Trump slammed Harris over the survey during a tense head-to-head showdown on ABC News on Tuesday.

“She wants to give illegal immigrants in prison sex reassignment surgery right now,” Trump said during the debate. “That's what a radical left liberal would do.”

The survey asked, “As President, would you use executive power to ensure that transgender and nonbinary people who rely on the state for health care, including those in prisons and immigration detention centers, have access to comprehensive gender transition-related care, including all necessary surgical care? If so, how would you do so?”

“It is important that transgender people who rely on state care have access to the care they need, including access to treatment related to their gender transition,” Harris responded.

There was a clear winner in the Trump-Harris matchup, but don't think the election is over.

“I support policies that ensure federal prisoners and detainees have access to the medical care they need to transition, including surgical care, while incarcerated or detained. Sex transition treatment is medically necessary, and I will direct all federal agencies responsible for providing essential medical care to provide it,” she added.

When asked by Fox News Digital about Harris' response, a Harris campaign adviser said, “The Vice President's position was shaped by three years of effective governance of the Biden-Harris Administration.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Harris campaign for comment on the bill.
