Nobel Institute dismisses discussion of Venezuela's Maria Corina Machado awarding Nobel Peace Prize to Trump

Nobel Peace Prize Committee Addresses Machado’s Proposal

The organization responsible for the Nobel Peace Prize has dismissed recent comments from Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Colina Machado regarding the possibility of awarding or sharing the prize with former President Donald Trump.

On Friday, the Norwegian Nobel Institute announced its decision to decline Machado’s suggestion made earlier in the week about transferring the esteemed award to Trump.

“Once a Nobel Prize has been awarded, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to another person,” the institute stated. “This decision is final and permanent.”

This announcement followed Machado’s remarks during a segment on Fox News’ “Hannity.” Sean Hannity asked, “Did you ever offer to give him the Nobel Peace Prize? Did that actually happen?” to which Machado replied, “Well, that hasn’t happened yet.”

She elaborated, “We want to communicate directly what we believe. This is the prize of the Venezuelan people, so we definitely want to give it to him and share it with him. What he did is historic. It’s a significant step toward a transition to democracy.”

On January 3, Trump revealed that the U.S. successfully captured authoritarian Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who faces drug trafficking charges in New York.

During a Thursday “Hannity” segment, Machado inquired if Trump would accept the Nobel Prize, to which he replied, “I hear she wants to do that. It’s a great honor.”

Machado managed to escape Venezuela last month to collect the Nobel Peace Prize, which she dedicated to Trump. “Let me be clear: as soon as I found out we had won the Nobel Peace Prize, I dedicated the award to President Trump, because at that moment, I believed he deserved it,” she mentioned on “Hannity.” However, many had thought it would be impossible for him to achieve what he did on January 3.”

Trump has plans to meet with Venezuelan opposition leaders in Washington next week, but he has previously remarked that Machado lacks “domestic support or respect” as a leader.

It’s worth noting that Acting President Delcy Rodriguez, a longtime supporter of Maduro, served as vice president under his administration.
