Nolan McLean Shines for the Mets Against the Phillies

New York Mets pitcher Nolan McLean is certainly turning heads lately. He made a notable impact during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday night, leading his team to a 6-0 win.

During this impressive outing, McLean pitched for eight innings, bringing the Mets closer to the top of the National League East Division—now just four games behind. It’s pretty remarkable. He has now achieved something that even Mets legends like Tom Seaver, Dwight Gooden, and Jacob deGrom never did.

Mets infielder Mark Bientos commented on McLean’s performance, saying, “He’s a stud. It’s so much fun being part of what he does every day.” McLean made his MLB debut on August 16th with the Seattle Mariners, and since then, he hasn’t looked back. In that first game, he pitched into the eighth inning, allowing only two hits in a 3-1 victory. Just last week, he threw seven innings against the Atlanta Braves, giving up two runs and four hits, contributing to a 12-7 win for the Mets.

Wednesday’s game was particularly significant, especially with the season winding down. The pressure has been mounting, but McLean handled it well.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said, “It’s amazing to say. That’s all about kids. Not just what we see on the mound, how he carries himself, but he has electrical stuff.” He emphasized that McLean understands the game deeply and isn’t afraid to mix up his pitching.

Since McLean’s debut, the Mets have recorded an impressive 8-3 record. He has brought his ERA down to 0.89, marking the best start for a rookie in Mets history—the previous record was held by Seaver, who finished his first three games with a 1.19 ERA back in 1967.

Reflecting on his journey, McLean expressed confidence, stating, “I’ve always believed in my own. I’m a confident guy.” He acknowledged the competition but remains secure in his abilities.
