Nonprofit claims USPS improperly handled 800 care packages intended for troops abroad

USPS Misshipment of Care Packages to Troops

A nonprofit organization is alleging that the U.S. Postal Service mishandled hundreds of care packages intended for American military personnel and is urging President Trump to step in.

Kristen Gauvin, president of Box to Boots, expressed her hopes on “Fox & Friends First” Wednesday, stating, “I really hope that President Trump can pull off a Christmas miracle for us and get these boxes to the troops, because they often don’t arrive.” The organization aims to send essential items—like toiletries and snacks—to service members who can’t come home during the holidays.

This year, however, they faced significant shipping challenges, according to Gauvin. The organization had mailed out a package in mid-November, but over 800 out of 1,100 boxes were unexpectedly returned, with more than 100 completely unaccounted for. The USPS attributed this mishap to insufficient customs documentation.

In a statement to Fox & Friends First, the USPS noted, “We are currently investigating why these packages were returned. Packages may be returned if customs documentation is incomplete or if necessary details are missing to meet export compliance requirements.”

Gauvin mentioned that this was the first time they’ve encountered such a problem and pointed out that other groups have reported similar issues. Interestingly, around 300 identical packages managed to pass through without any hitches.

“All these boxes had my name and contact information on the return label… it would be good if someone had reached out to let me know, ‘Hey, we’ve got a big issue here,’” she added.

She also indicated that had it been a labeling problem, she and her volunteers would have been willing to drive anywhere to rectify it.

“It’s frustrating, especially since everything was clearly labeled for military addresses, and you’d think they’d treat our troops with more care,” Gauvin commented.

Box to Boots is now calling on federal officials to intervene and ensure these packages reach the soldiers before the holidays. They’ve specifically asked for assistance from President Trump and Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth, warning that if the situation isn’t resolved soon, the packages could end up arriving in mid-January, far too late for the holiday cheer.
