Nonprofit had annual goal to ‘Kill Musk’s Twitter’

A whistleblower has revealed that a nonprofit focused on “digital hate” has a stated goal of destroying Elon Musk's X platform.

Leaked documents reveal that the Center for Countering Digital Hate, an American nonprofit and British charity, has an internal goal of “taking down Mr. Musk's Twitter.”

Images from January, March, and October 2024 list “killing Musk's Twitter” as a yearly priority. Other priorities included a “focus on advertising,” “triggering regulatory action in the EU and UK,” and “progress towards change in the US.”

Reporters Paul Tucker and Matt Taibbi Posted Other screenshots reveal that the nonprofit group wanted to discuss policy with Sen. Amy Klobuchar's team and seek “citation/press release approval” from her. The document showed the nonprofit had already set up a meeting with the senator's team.

According to Tucker, the nonprofit organization We held a private conference with a group of liberal representatives who were organizing against Musk.

Guests included members of Joe Biden's administration, Congressman Adam Schiff's office, Biden State Department officials, Canadian MP Peter Julian, and Media Matters for America.

The nonprofit uses masks to collect donations in several places on its website. on top of that Home pagethe organization claimed it had won a legal victory against the entrepreneur and was “working to hold social media giants accountable.”

“Fighting Elon Musk's lawsuit has cost us thousands of dollars. … Please help us get back on track,” the nonprofit wrote.

CCDH has publicly stated that platforms like X “and their owners” must be “held accountable for enabling the spread of hate and misinformation.”

In fact, one of the suspects is Peter Julian, who recently demanded that “all advertisers” of X: boycotted.

“Let's boycott all advertisers on Twitter. Let's mute all ads. Let's end the nightmare of far-right extremist hate speech billionaires controlling this social media platform,” Julian wrote.

CCDH will openly go after X's advertisers, drive a series of campaigns around vague claims of online hate and misinformation, and file complaints if posts are not removed.

One of them is campaignTitled “X Content Moderation Failure,” the article claims that Musk's platform failed to remove “hateful posts.” Within a week of reporting, 86% of reported posts were still claimed to have not been removed.

The company also found “dozens of ads for household brands like Apple and Disney placed next to hate speech.”

“Abuse of women in politics” report The company complains that it discovered “1,000 abusive comments targeting female politicians running for office” on Instagram.

The company later said that Meta had “taken no action on 926 of these hateful comments.”

CCDH too blame the platform “Content creators are profiting from promoting new forms of climate change denial,” it said, claiming they were harboring disinformation about climate change.

The nonprofit also claims it is part of a “sensible majority” seeking to avert “climate catastrophe,” but aims to delay action to save the planet. They claim that they are having difficulties because they have to deal with a large amount of disinformation.
