An Edenton, North Carolina, man is facing murder charges for allegedly killing a woman whose body was found in the trunk of a car that was towed from private property.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) announced that a woman's body was found in the trunk of a car owned by Jordan Isaiah Thomas on January 17 in Beaufort County.

NCSBI said in a release that the victim is believed to be a 19-year-old student at Elizabeth City State University. The cause of death will be determined pending positive identification from the medical examiner's office, NCSBI said.

Investigators say the car was parked on a private company's lot on Route 264 in Washington, North Carolina.

The car was towed to a local facility, and the body was eventually discovered in the trunk by an employee of the towing company.

After investigating, detectives determined that Thomas left the vehicle in a private parking lot and then stole the truck from the same location.

The stolen truck was later found at a hospital near Washington, North Carolina, where Thomas was also found and arrested.

NCSBI investigators said they believe the victim was killed at a different location than where the vehicle was found, based on evidence taken from the Edenton home where Thomas lived. Whether the murder occurred at the Edenton residence or elsewhere remains under investigation.
