The North Carolina Tar Heels and Bill Belichick acquired a top defensive lineman from the UConn Huskies in the transfer portal amid rumors that the legendary head coach is interested in an NFL job.
The Tar Heels acquired defensive lineman Price Yates, who won Defensive MVP honors at the Fenway Bowl as the Huskies defeated the Tar Heels 27-14. ESPN reported Wednesday. He had 21 tackles and 3.5 sacks in seven games. He missed some time due to injury.

The latest transfer move comes after NFL Network reported that Belichick and Tom Brady recently spoke about the possibility of Belichick taking the Las Vegas Raiders job. The report also mentions the Jacksonville Jaguars as a potential destination for Belichick.
The Athletic Belichick reportedly has no plans to leave North Carolina.

Belichick led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl championships with Brady, who recently became a minority owner of the Raiders. He remained with the team until the 2023 season, before the two teams mutually parted ways.
Belichick left the league in 2024 because no team named him their head coach. He interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons but did not win the sweepstakes. He spent a season as an analyst before making the surprising move of taking a gig with the Tar Heels.
