Kindly and rewind – back to the 90s.
Nostalgia Fest is coming to Nassau County this weekend, bringing a two-day celebration of cherished memories from the 90s, including beloved icons like “Power Rangers” and Pogs.
“Everyone seems to love revisiting the past. The 1990s are definitely getting a lot of love,” said Brimstone, a Long Island-based wrestler and celebrity guest at the event in Mineola.
According to Brimstone, attendees can expect to see boomboxes and friendship bracelets everywhere. “This kind of event is unique on the island,” he noted, emphasizing the festival’s special vibe.
The festival is free and will take place on Fridays from 4 PM to 9 PM and Saturdays at Wilson Park, offering plenty of chances to relive the analog memories. A novelty bar will serve drinks selected from 90s VHS tapes displayed on shelves, adding to the nostalgic atmosphere.
There’s also a cover band that will play hits from iconic bands like Weezer and Nirvana, culminating in a fireworks show on Saturday nights. Plus, festival-goers can purchase unique nods to the past, made from vintage millennial favorites.
One vendor will creatively recycle 90s memorabilia, transforming old collectibles, like McDonald’s Happy Meal toys, into fun items like keychains. “They take these treasures and give them new life,” said festival organizer Grace Kelly.
Other local vendors, like Mr. Cheapo CDS in Mineola, will offer a range of products from vinyl records to classic movies. Kelly mentioned that if the festival were to face rainy weather next weekend, they’d still have plenty to sell.
Andy’s recycling shop in Garden City promises to have a treasure trove of rare toys from the era, making it an ideal stop for collectors.
This year’s Nostalgia Fest aims to broaden its collection of vintage items, with organizers keen on expanding the nostalgia experience.
To add to the excitement, a youth skateboarding competition will feature over 40 young skateboarders, hosted by a local skating organization. “We’ve designed a unique course with grind rails and jumps, alongside a mini mobile half-pipe,” Kelly shared.
The competition will reward skaters based on their best tricks, with nearly 40 participants already signed up. More could join as the event approaches.
For Brimstone, the message is clear: don’t miss out on this opportunity for free entertainment over the two days. “Usually, events like this come with a hefty price tag, so take full advantage of it,” he advised.
