Recently uncovered documents, including handwritten notes from James Comey, echo the notorious tapes that once led to Richard Nixon’s downfall. It’s striking how Comey shares traits with Nixon—both were needy, self-centered, vindictive, and manipulative. They claimed honesty, yet treated the truth with disdain. Nixon gave us Watergate; Comey provided the Russia narrative, leading to both being ousted in disgrace.
In a curious twist, Comey’s controversial notes were intended for destruction, much like Nixon attempted to erase his recordings. The documents were meant to be incinerated but were, for reasons we don’t fully understand, not destroyed.
Impact of Comey’s Accusations on the Justice Department
One memo reveals Comey’s awareness from the start that the allegations of Russian collusion were a concocted scheme tied to Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Special Counsel John Durham’s report from 2023 states that Clinton aimed to undermine Donald Trump ahead of the election.
When pressed in Congress about his knowledge of this, Comey feigned poor memory, claiming he couldn’t recall details of Clinton’s supposed smear campaign against Trump. Yet, his own memo includes statements that contradict this selective amnesia.
This information seems to originate from John Brennan, who was then the CIA director. His declassified notes align with Comey’s findings, indicating Clinton’s possible misconduct.
Instead of coming clean about the deception, Comey and others involved chose silence, allowing the situation to escalate into a fabricated scandal that threatened Trump’s presidency.
Comey’s notes, dated September 26, 2016, link him to the “Clinton Plan” discussed in a meeting with high-ranking national security officials. Instead of investigating Clinton’s alleged misconduct, Comey redirected efforts toward targeting Trump.
Remember, on July 5, 2016, Comey publicly announced Clinton’s exoneration regarding her email controversies, disregarding evident crimes. He also impeded investigations into possible criminal activities tied to the Clinton Foundation.
As I mentioned in my 2018 book, Comey’s contradictions are numerous. While exonerating Clinton, his FBI was meeting authors of a now-discredited anti-Trump dossier. Despite the dossier being debunked, Comey used it as a springboard to suggest Trump was involved in an unproven crime.
It’s clear that Comey believed Clinton would win and would then benefit from this corrupt maneuvering.
Comey’s Indictment and Political Backlash
Comey never anticipated a Trump win, leading him to weaponize the FBI against him. As Trump’s election unfolded, Comey intensified his efforts to perpetuate the collusion storyline.
This reflects a broader issue of power abuse, where laws are twisted, and those in charge act unlawfully while shielding the actual wrongdoer, in this case, Clinton.
Comey is actively seeking to dismiss multiple federal indictments related to providing false statements. His claims of retaliatory motives in the prosecution are under scrutiny.
Prosecutors have revealed numerous documents linked to Comey, some classified, that were meant for destruction shortly before Trump’s inauguration in January 2025. This raises serious concerns about potential obstruction of justice.
Additionally, revelations about Comey’s conduct suggest he misled Congress regarding leaking information, violating FBI policies and manipulating public perception.
Among the items from the “burn bag” are documents illustrating the extensive legal campaigns waged against Trump by both the Obama and Biden administrations, tying into events surrounding the Capitol breach and the disputed 2020 election.
Evidence might point to a conspiracy aimed at undermining Trump, possibly leading to scrutiny under federal anti-corruption laws.
As new documents come to light, they strengthen the allegations of misconduct against Comey and underscore the political motivations behind certain legal actions against Trump.
Comey is now navigating legal challenges that won’t escape the grand jury’s attention. Questions linger about the extent of legal manipulations that have significantly disrupted the nation’s judicial integrity.
The ramifications of these actions are deep and troubling. The trauma incited by this division demands a reckoning, but will justice be served? Will Comey avoid the repercussions similar to Nixon’s pardon?
