Notre Dame Invites Fans to ‘Join Us In Prayer’ After New Orleans Terror Attack

The University of Notre Dame is inviting fans in New Orleans to join them in praying for the victims of Wednesday morning's terrorist attack on Bourbon Street at the Sugar Bowl.

“We are aware of the incident that occurred this morning in New Orleans and are working with law enforcement and others to determine the full scope and impact of the tragedy,” the school wrote in a Jan. 1 post. .

The message goes on to say, “Due to the ongoing investigation, the public is advised to avoid traffic on the north side of Bourbon Street from Canal Street to Dumaine Street and on the east side from Royal Street to Dauphin Street until further notice.” “We are being asked to avoid it,” he continued. ”

The attack occurred on Bourbon Street around 3:15 a.m. on January 1, when a man, identified by authorities as Shamsud Din Jabbar, drove his truck through a street filled with New Year's revelers. The 42-year-old, who had recently converted to Islam, ended up killing more than a dozen people and injuring more than two dozen others.

Officials observed a black ISIS flag attached to the back gate of Din Jabbar's truck and said the FBI was investigating the incident as a terrorist attack.

The university also released a message signed by CSC President Rev. Robert A. Dowd, saying, “Our prayers go out to the families and loved ones of all those affected by the horrific attack in New Orleans early this morning. I will dedicate it.”

“We also pray for all those injured and express our deepest gratitude to the brave first responders who risked their lives to protect others.”
