Djokovic’s fiery response to reporter’s question at Australian Open

During the post-match press conference, Djokovic was asked his thoughts on “chasing” the legends Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in his early days and now how he feels about “chasing” Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz as his career winds down in 2026. It’s a bit confusing, honestly.

“Am I really the one always chasing, though?” Djokovic interrupted. “So, I’m just perpetually behind? That doesn’t seem fair.” His tone suggested he found the framing a bit off.

The reporter then acknowledged, “Well, you’ve won 24 Grand Slams.” Djokovic just smiled in response, “Thanks, I appreciate it. It’s good to throw that out there from time to time, isn’t it?”

After waiting for questions to wrap up, Djokovic didn’t hold back. “I think it’s somewhat disrespectful to overlook the years between when I was pursuing Rafa and Roger and now—I’m not in this constant chase mode,” he said firmly. “I’ve been collecting Grand Slam titles for about 15 years now.”
