Former President Donald Trump called Nov. 5, 2024, the date of the presidential election, “the most important day in the history of our country” during a press conference on Friday after a New York City jury found him guilty of falsifying business records.
“We are dealing with a corrupt government. Our country is corrupt. Our elections are corrupt. Our borders are open. Our borders will soon be closed. Nov. 5th will be the most important day in the history of our country,” he said.
He urged his supporters to donate to his campaign because “donations really do make a difference.”
“There’s a lot of money over there. I don’t know where they’re getting the money from, nobody knows, but for some reason they’re getting the money. But they’re not on the side of our country. In a lot of ways, I think they hate our country,” he said.
“I’m going to do whatever it takes to defend our country and our Constitution. No problem. So we’re going to keep fighting. We’re going to make America great again,” he continued. “Our country is in deep trouble. We’re $36 trillion in debt, we were supposed to be energy self-sufficient for the first time, and now we’re begging Venezuela for oil.”
The former president and now presumptive Republican nominee said it would be an “honor” to fight the charges against him.
“It’s a real honor to do this. It’s really unpleasant to be honest, but it’s a real honor and we’re going to do what we have to do,” he said.
“But we will make America great again. We will make it better than it was before. And remember November 5th. Remember November 5th is the most important day in our nation’s history.”
