A former Florida nurse, Alexis von Yates, was sentenced to two years in prison on Tuesday for engaging in sexual acts with her 15-year-old stepson in 2024.
She received this sentence plus an additional two years as a registered sex offender, and will undergo 10 years of probation. This was confirmed through court documents reviewed by the Post Office.
During the sentencing, von Yates, age 35, remained expressionless as Judge Timothy McCourt delivered the ruling, as seen in the video from Court TV.
From what I gather, she had a pretty polished look, sporting makeup and a black turtleneck at the time of her sentencing.
It seems her legal team negotiated a plea deal that considerably mitigated her original sentence, which was a point of agreement with the court.
Initially, von Yates faced serious charges of sexual battery but these were adjusted due to legal factors concerning minors aged 12 to 16. She did not contest the charges when she appeared in court on August 21.
In addition to her prison term, she must complete 200 hours of community service and cover a fine and court fees.
The original charge was a first-degree felony, which could have led to a life sentence and a $10,000 penalty.
She was arrested in November 2024 after being caught by her husband, Frank, who discovered them together while they were watching a horror movie on July 26, 2024.
Frank returned home from work to find the scene and reportedly startled the teenager, who fled to the bathroom while von Yates tried to conceal herself under a blanket.
It’s said that von Yates allegedly told the boy he was “horny” due to a lack of sexual activity over the previous two weeks, claiming she was on her period. She indicated that he reminded her of her husband when he was younger, but insisted on stopping any sexual activity after it began.
However, the teenage victim later told his father that those statements were untrue, according to reports.
After her arrest, von Yates lost her nursing license almost immediately.
The boy’s mother expressed her anger during the sentencing, labeling von Yates as an “incest pedophile” who had exploited her son. She portrayed the former nurse as a predator showing no remorse for her actions.
Moreover, the mother claimed that her son feels let down by those who should have safeguarded him, highlighting the boy’s fractured relationship with his father since the incident.
At the conclusion of the hearing, von Yates was ordered to avoid any contact with the boy before being taken into custody.
