The judge presiding over former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial swore in seven jurors Tuesday. The jury consists of four men and three women, and they come from a variety of backgrounds and professions.
New York State Supreme Court Justice Juan Marchan will need to seat 11 more jurors (five jurors and six alternates).
Trump’s unprecedented trial begins Monday morning with jury selection, with the first day of proceedings potentially ending Monday. The trial could last until June. The judge is not scheduled to hear any additional cases on Wednesdays.
During Tuesday’s trial, Marchan allowed a juror who celebrated Trump’s 2020 loss on social media to remain on the jury, according to Breitbart News. A judge dismissed another potential juror after Trump’s lawyers discovered posts on Trump’s social media that would “lock him up.”
Below is a description of the selected judges, Axios. report:
1. The sales foreman lives in Harlem but is from Ireland.
2. A native New Yorker who is an oncology nurse.
3. A corporate lawyer from Oregon.
4. A self-employed IT consultant who lives on the Lower East Side but grew up in Puerto Rico.
5. Teacher and lifelong New Yorker. She was the only juror who said she didn’t know Trump was charged in three other cases.
6. Software engineer working at Disney.
7. A lawyer who lives on the Upper East Side.
The remaining potential jurors will fill out a questionnaire asking about their media consumption, where they live and whether they are politically active.
After completing the questionnaire, lawyers from both parties will vet the candidates. Lawyers could look at jurors’ social media and ask more personal questions to screen for bias.
