Tragic Incident in Tennessee: Nurse Takes Lives of Sons and Grandmother
A 32-year-old nurse from Tennessee allegedly shot and killed her two young sons, aged 4 and 13, as well as her 88-year-old grandmother before turning the gun on herself. This disturbing event was confirmed by local authorities.
Deputies from the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office found the four bodies during a welfare check at a residence in Waverly on Friday morning. Each individual had suffered gunshot wounds.
The victims have been identified as Arius Thompson, 4, Isaiah Johnson, 13, Evelyn Johnson, 88, along with their mother, Heather Thompson, 32. Initial findings indicate that Heather, who was reportedly estranged from the boys’ father, might have killed her family members before taking her own life.
Sheriff Chris Davis noted that there were no signs of forced entry at the home, leading investigators to believe that there was no involvement from outside parties.
Interestingly, there had been no previous reports of domestic violence or mental health issues at the residence, and the sheriff’s office refrained from sharing any potential motives as investigations proceed.
Davis appeared visibly shaken while addressing the media, mentioning that he knew the family personally. “It’s hard in a small town like this. We’re going to support them and do what’s right,” he expressed.
The investigation is currently being supported by the State Bureau of Investigation.
Heather Thompson held a master’s degree from Walden University and was employed at Ascension St. Thomas Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly. She had also been running a local health clinic while being estranged from her children’s father, Jeremiah Thompson.
In an emotional post on social media, Jeremiah shared his heartbreak over the loss, describing his sons as “just babies.” He currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support bringing the children’s remains back to their home state. As of Sunday morning, the fund had raised nearly $11,000, moving towards its $16,000 target.
This tragedy adds to the series of unfortunate events that have marked Waverly in recent years, including devastating flash floods in August 2021 that claimed 20 lives and a catastrophic explosion at a local plant, killing 16 individuals.
