In an exclusive interview with ABC News, New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) spoke about the recent ruling in her case that forced former President Trump to pay more than $350 million in fines.
ABC’s Aaron Katasky asked James why so far only women have held Trump accountable for his legal problems.
“Why have only women held him accountable so far? Fanny Willis pled guilty. E. Jean Carroll got a big sentence, but you’re the second biggest in New York state history. asked Mr. Catasky. “Why is she a woman?”
Without hesitation, James answered, “Someone once told me that if you want something done for you, give it to a woman.” she posted a clip on the New York State Attorney General’s account on Platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Mr. James followed last week’s historic civil fraud ruling in which Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Mr. Trump to pay a fine of approximately $355 million. James sued Trump in 2022, accusing him of falsely changing his net worth on his financial statements in order to receive tax and insurance benefits.
Before the trial began, Engoron found Trump, the Trump Organization and several executives, including his adult son, responsible for the fraud. He could now pay more than $450 million in interest and be banned from doing business in New York for three years.
After the verdict, James praised Engoron’s decision and said “justice has been served.” She told a news conference that the verdict proved that no one is above the law, “no matter how rich, powerful or politically connected.”
Weeks before the Engoron ruling, another New York judge ordered President Trump to award $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll, a columnist who denied her accusations that he sexually assaulted her decades ago. ordered to pay.
Several people involved in President Trump’s election interference scandal in Fulton County, Georgia, have been found guilty in Attorney General Fani Willis’ indictment against Trump and 18 others who tried to overturn the 2020 election in the state. Admitted.
