New York Democrat Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand wrote Monday letter Newly created Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to reverse recent cuts to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) affecting the 9/11 First Responders program. I encourage it.
“Funding for the first responders on 9/11 is an incredible insult of government waste. These cruel cuts mean layoffs of staff who dedicated their careers to care for survivors on 9/11 Schumer said in a statement on Tuesday about the reported World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP).
The program will provide screenings, research and medication to more than 100,000 survivors diagnosed with conditions related to the 9/11 service, and to more than 100,000 survivors for free.
“After putting everything at risk to protect us, we are telling 9/11 survivors that we cannot support what their health care needs,” Schumer added. Ta. Answering the call for obligation on 9/11, he is now health care for people suffering from cancer, respiratory illnesses, and more. ”
The Trump administration has moved to cut down probation positions within the federal government, including around 1,300 CDC employees.
Schumer and Gillibrand said the WTCHP cuts have already led to the end of at least 16 program staff, according to advocates, but others have accepted the Trump administration's “buy” and WTCHP total staff has been reduced by approximately 20%.
“Reducing workers and firing workers in this critical programme will have a devastating impact on our ability to provide the care needed to disease responders and survivors.” Gillibrand writes.
“This is the betrayal of our heroes who risked their lives to bring our community back to life in one of our country's darkest times, and we're not going to let it stand. Hmm,” she continued. It's finished soon. ”
