Before the Week 3 game against the Tennessee Titans, fans were quick to respond to Winston’s peculiar interview. CBS reporter AJ Ross inquired about his preparation and ability to step up for the injured QB Jaxson Dart, but the answer he gave was unexpected.
“One thing that I do is forgetting those that is behind and reaching forward to what’s ahead,” Winston said, which left fans puzzled. The video garnered over 5 million views, yet few understood his intent.
One user described his remarks as “utter incoherence,” while another found them simply “insane.” Contrary to the belief that he was trying to sound profound, Winston was actually quoting Scripture.
He was echoing the message from Philippians 3:13, where the apostle Paul acknowledges he hasn’t achieved perfection.
However, not everyone was negative about Winston’s comments. The popular podcast “Bussin’ with the Boys” referred to him as a “poet,” and the sports website OutKick called him a “national treasure.”
Podcaster Keith Malinak was among the few who caught the reference, helping clarify it for others.
Winston’s upbeat attitude often leads to amusing, if not baffling, interview moments that leave reporters momentarily stumped. For instance, when discussing how weather might influence the game, Winston’s response was quite vague.
“The circumstances, conditions, and facts, they don’t matter,” he said. “It’s us doing, being doers, not speakers.” It’s easy to see why fans sometimes struggle to discern between his biblical quotes and personal insights.
After the Giants secured a 12-7 victory over the Titans, Winston expressed his joy in the postgame interview, saying he was “elated” to finish the game successfully. “Praise God,” he added.
He faced continuous questions about feeling replaceable, but maintained a grateful attitude about his role.
Despite his positivity, many analysts doubt Winston’s effectiveness as a starting quarterback. With no touchdowns and only 229 passing yards over his first two games, criticisms have emerged rapidly.
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith remarked that there’s a sort of expectation for a major misstep when Winston is at the helm. “Jameis Winston is more entertaining and more interesting in the pregame chatter about football than he is once he’s behind center. That’s the reality of the situation,” he stated.
The Giants are set to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4, which on paper seems like another opportunity for a win. They have several such games lined up before the year wraps up.
