With pickled cucumbers already all the rage, cucumber lovers across the country are flocking to New York delis to try a literal “pickled” sandwich.
“It’s a pickle frenzy,” said Anthony Fiorito, owner of Seven Brothers Gourmet in Oceanside, Long Island, who sells about 250 pickles a day. He told Gothamist.
For the uninitiated, this salty Frankenfood consists of cured meat, cheese, and other ingredients sandwiched between two hollowed-out pickles, and is the product of the infamous Luther Burger (A beef patty sandwiched between a donut).
The Long Island sandwich shop has been selling the flavorful sandwich since January, but it’s only recently started to take off through word of mouth. TikTok has been viewed over 4 million times.
The video shows a food influencer named Gaby Parmesan (who, due to the video’s popularity, has now dubbed herself “Pickle Sandwich Girl”) munching on the cornichon-wrapped creation.
“This is honestly the best thing I’ve ever had,” said an enthralled foodie as pickle juice dripped from the cucumber grinder.
Fiorito said the pickle sandwiches are selling like hotcakes now, with some people making pilgrimages from as far away as Albany just to get a bite of the flavorful dish.
He said the majority of his customers are TikTok review Pickle’s hero.
And it’s not just New Yorkers eager to get a taste: “We’ve met people from upstate New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts,” says Stephanie, an employee at Seven Brothers. He told Next Star.
She further added, Customers come from as far away as California. Then ask if Seven Brothers Gourmet will deliver the sandwich to your home.
Unfortunately, Seven Brothers does not offer delivery.
The sandwich is the pickled apex of the increasingly widespread phenomenon of soaking any and every food in saltwater.
