NY Times Stealth Edits Column Suggesting J.D. Vance Is A Literal Fascist After Receiving Heavy Criticism

The New York Times quietly changed the headline of a Saturday column linking Republican Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio to a Nazi slogan.

Jamel Bouie, an op-ed columnist for the New York Times, column “J.D. Vance's Blood-and-Soil Nationalism Finds a Target” Nazi slogan After receiving harsh criticism late Saturday, The Times said Vance's comments and past comments about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, suggest the Republican vice presidential nominee is a racist and should “immediately” resign from office to atone for “ethics violations.” Updated They decided to change the headline of the article to “Shouldn't J.D. Vance represent the entire state of Ohio?” and not to include an editor's note to draw attention to the change.

Vance has come under fire for comments such as: SpringfieldThe city of Springfield, population 60,000, has struggled to deal with a large influx of Haitian immigrants into the country in recent years. Some Democrats have argued that the Republican focus on Springfield's plight is racially motivated, especially since former President Donald Trump said during Tuesday's debate that Haitians in Springfield eat their pets, while some Republicans argue the problems Springfield faces are a direct result of the Biden-Harris administration's immigration policies. “If Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio had any morality or decency or any belief in anything other than his own ambition and lust for power, he would immediately resign from the Senate, withdraw from the presidential race, and retire from public office after a heartbreaking apology for his ethical violations,” Booi's column began. “As it stands, Vance has done none of the above, which is why, to this day, he continues to use his position as a U.S. senator and Republican presidential candidate to spread lies and slander against the voters of Springfield, Haitian immigrants who settled there in search of a new life.”

Many commenters took to Twitter to denounce the column for associating Vance with a Nazi slogan. Republican Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana It is called Donald Trump Jr. said the piece was “really disgusting.” stated The New York Times called Vance “openly seeking to incite violence” and noted that Vance's father, the vice presidential candidate, has three mixed-race children. Trump campaign adviser Alex Bruszewicz said: Called They called on the NYT to retract the article and for Vance to apologize.

Bouie suggests: Bomb threat The protests against Springfield's schools and city hall are a result of the way Vance and other Republicans talk about the city. Boui also argues that Haitian immigrants are actually driving the city's revitalization because, despite “growing pains,” they “got jobs, bought homes, and enriched the city's coffers with property and sales taxes.”

During a recent trip by the Daily Caller News Foundation to report on the town's plight, several residents described a surge in traffic accidents, housing shortages and other social and economic problems that have plagued the town since the influx of Haitians.

Boui said Vance's speech at the Republican National Convention — in which he spoke of America as a group of ideas, places and people with a common history and future — takes on new meaning in light of his comments about Haitians in Springfield.

“All that matters to Vance is who they are, where they come from, what they look like,” Bouie wrote of the Haitian immigrants who flocked to Springfield. “They don't belong on this land, he might say, therefore they don't belong here. All Vance can do now to wage this war is use words. It's scary to think what he could do if he could wield state power as well.”

The NYT did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
