Increased Security Following US Airstrikes on Iranian Sites

Authorities in New York and Washington are on heightened alert after US airstrikes targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities late Saturday. The NYPD announced via a social media post that they are keeping a close watch on the situation in Iran. They added that they would be increasing resources at religious and cultural sites across NYC and collaborating with federal partners.

Shortly after the NYPD’s announcement, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) also issued a statement, signaling awareness of the developments in Iran. They emphasized coordination with local, state, and federal law enforcement to ensure the safety of residents, businesses, and visitors in the District of Columbia.

Although the MPD indicated no immediate threats to the area, they plan to enhance police presence around places of worship.

Paul Mauro, a former NYPD inspector and current Fox News contributor who has monitored terrorist activity, noted specific plans. He mentioned that the NYPD is strategically positioning patrol vehicles in areas linked to Israeli interests, including several Shia mosques, given Iran’s Shia denomination. These officers will engage with these communities and implement special patrols.

Mauro highlighted the importance of monitoring online activity from potentially dangerous individuals. He stated that the NYPD has a robust cyber anti-terrorism initiative that will be heavily utilized in the current context.

Furthermore, Mauro remarked that authorities in Washington are similarly vigilant, with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) paying close attention to incoming travelers. There will be considerable scrutiny concerning who is entering the country, particularly at airports and borders.
