Another employee who spoke to the paper said the employee was not seriously injured but is no longer working at the cannabis store.

“I’m on night shift and now the door won’t open,” said Abraham, 30.

Detectives said the suspects grabbed approximately $260 worth of marijuana and fled on foot.

The 24-hour store served customers on the sidewalk through a revolving counter.

Abraham said he was unfazed by threats of violence because he used to “work in Delhi (India)” and was “used to it”.

The violent hit-and-run incident comes amid a spate of robberies at the thousands of unlicensed smoke shops that have sprung up across the city since the legalization of adult use of cannabis.

Despite calls for increased enforcement, state regulators have collected only a fraction of the $25 million worth of fines that black marketers were supposed to have to pay.

The NYPD released security images of the suspect, all of whom appear to be a young man wearing a sweatshirt or hooded jacket.
