NYC carjacker steals minivan with 6-month-old baby inside: police

A New York City carjacker was taken into custody Sunday after stealing a minivan with a 6-month-old baby inside, police said.

New York City Deputy Police Commissioner Kaz Daughtry asked for the public’s help in a social media post on Sunday afternoon.

Around 11:30 a.m., someone entered an abandoned minivan on the corner of East 46th Street and 3rd Avenue in the Bronx.

Daughtry said a 6-month-old child was in the back seat of a 2000 Chrysler minivan registered in Pennsylvania.

The person then drove off in a minivan with the child still inside.

“Please take care,” Daughtry wrote. “New York, we need your help.”

Less than an hour later, the New York Police Department provided an update on Daughtry’s post.

Five immigrants wanted for allegedly attacking NYPD are currently in custody, while another is being held on $15,000 bail.

“Thanks to the public’s assistance and the incredible work of the NYPD, the 6-month-old baby was found safe and the suspect was taken into custody,” the NYPD said in a statement.

Fox News Digital reached out to police for more information about the suspect but did not immediately receive a response.

A police source reportedly told the New York Post that the 53-year-old has not been formally charged with any crime and has merely been identified as a suspect.
