Daycare Worker Charged with Abuse

A daycare worker in Brooklyn, Devonte Brown, 30, has been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing four girls in his care over an 18-month span. Police are now looking for additional potential victims, as stated by prosecutors.

Brown is accused of inappropriately touching two five-year-olds, a six-year-old, and a nine-year-old at The Learning Factory in Bushwick repeatedly between April 2024 and August 2025, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.

Details revealed by prosecutors indicate that Brown allegedly touched the girls’ intimate areas both above and beneath their clothing within the daycare facility. Additionally, they say he attacked one of the girls at Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park in July 2025. Disturbingly, he reportedly threatened to fire the girl’s favorite teacher if she disclosed the incidents to anyone.

It wasn’t until August and September 2025 that the girls finally confided in their parents about the abuse, prompting the adults to report the situation to law enforcement.

Beverly Brown, one of the parents, mentioned in a report that her daughter was among those abused last summer.

Expressing concerns, Beverly described noticing her child’s reluctance to go to the daycare. “My daughter just ran to me and hugged me and cried,” she recalled. She took immediate action, opting to bring her child to the hospital instead of their planned trip to Chuck E. Cheese, thankful for her child’s trust in her.

Marcus Alston, the former director of education at The Learning Factory, resigned due to his concerns about Brown being disregarded. He indicated, “I left because I voiced my opinions and concerns about Mr. Brown, and they fell on deaf ears.”

Currently, the daycare’s phone appears to be disconnected, and a sign at its entrance indicates it is temporarily closed following an order from the Department of Health.

Brown faced arraignment on charges including sexual conduct with a child, sexual abuse, forcible touching, and endangering a child’s welfare. A judge set his bail at $150,000 in cash, a $300,000 insurance bond, or a $500,000 partially secured bond, with a court date set for March 27.

The NYPD is inviting anyone who may have additional information or who might be a potential victim to reach out through their Sexual Assault Hotline or Crime Stoppers. They also offer a platform for individuals to submit tips online.
