NYC Democrats Demand ID for Snow Removal While Rejecting It for Voting

Democratic leaders in New York City are against voter ID laws, yet they don’t require similar documentation for hiring manual laborers.

The New York City Department of Sanitation has a page where locals can apply to work as paid “emergency snow shovelers” during winter storms.

Interestingly, to apply, candidates must provide two photos, “two originals and a copy of identification,” along with a Social Security card.

A report from New York Post mentioned that Democratic Socialist Mayor Zoran Mandani was criticized for this requirement, especially since he opposes ID requirements for voting. When it comes to snow shoveling, it seems he’s willing to overlook certain rules.

“The mayor is affiliated with the New York chapter of the Democratic Socialist Party of America, which strongly opposes the SAVE Act, a proposed voter ID law that they label as racist,” noted the article.

This news comes as New York City and the East Coast brace for a significant winter storm from Sunday to Monday, with blizzard warnings issued, according to Breitbart News.

On the topic of voter ID, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) referred to the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE) as “Jim Crow 2.0,” attributing it to “the right wing,” as reported by Breitbart News.

“What they’re doing is reminiscent of discriminatory practices used for years in the South to suppress votes from people of color. For instance, a woman who changes her last name after marriage might find it hard to provide ID. If you misplace your birth certificate, you face discrimination. It’s truly unacceptable,” he said.

UPI mentioned on February 11 that the U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the SAVE America Act, with only one Democrat voting in favor, though it may face challenges in the Senate.

“It’s just common sense: People need ID to drive, open a bank account, and even buy cold medicine. So why isn’t it the same for voting?” questioned House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana).

In contrast, FOX News reported that New Yorkers must show ID when applying to shovel snow, but the New York City Board of Elections does not require most registered voters to present identification.
