NYC Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright resigns

New York City's First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright officially resigned on Tuesday. It was the latest high-profile departure in an administration roiled by a massive federal corruption scandal.

News broke last Friday of Wright's impending resignation, with one source saying, “She's stepping down because she's been shown the door.”

Her successor will be Maria Torres Springer, the city's deputy mayor for housing.

Wright joins a growing list of recent resignations in the Adams administration. Sunday's mayor included her new husband, outgoing school principal David Banks, who is expected to step down in the coming weeks, and his brother and close friend of Mr. Adams, Phil Banks, who resigned as deputy.

The historic indictment charged Adams with bribery and corruption.

The cellphones of Wright and the Banks brothers (Phil, David, and third son Terrence) were seized as part of the federal investigation.

Gov. Kathy Hochul is working behind the scenes to fill the vacant top City Hall position, officials said, but will stop short of ousting Adams before the Nov. 5 election. .

This is a developing story.
